Heritage Lecture Season 2025-2026
“Preserving Local Treasures: Lake Worth Lagoon”
Presented by Kylie Ariotti, Environmental Analyst from Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management.
We’ll explore how the Lake Worth Lagoon has evolved and how each of us is connected to this local treasure through the surrounding watershed.
The Lake Worth Lagoon is full of diverse marine life and spans 20 miles from North Palm Beach to Ocean Ridge. The Lagoon is where ocean water flows in through 2 inlets and mixes with freshwater flowing through 3 major flood control canals that drain over 350,000 acres of land. It is critically important to Palm Beach County as a vital natural habitat, a major economic driver for tourism and recreation, a crucial part of the region’s identity, and a significant feature of its ecosystem and infrastructure.
We’ll learn how the health and restoration of the county’s largest estuary is a priority for all of us.
